THE ARTIST OF THE MENORAH ON MOUNT HERZL
Ben Zion Tsfoni, the artist of the Menorah on Mount Herzl, is an Israeli artist who specializes in special argon welding and the creation of Judaica and jewelry.
Ben Zion Tsfoni was born in Jerusalem on 27.12.1953.During his studies at ORT High School he studied welding and fine mechanics, while working in various places. On November 1st, 1971, Ben Zion enlisted in the IDF and served in a mechanical-engineering unit that built bridges. In 1973,during the Yom Kippur War, Ben Zion served in the 605th Battalion, near the Suez Canal.Ben Zion was witness to the horrific scenes of the War and he was injured physically and mentally.
After the war , during his rehabilitation process Ben Zion studied at the Wingate Institute and engaged in sports and art.
Ben Zion is married to Sydelle, an immigrant from South Africa .They have 3 sons: Dekel, Shaked and Dolev, who all served in elite units in the IDF.
In 1982, Ben Zion started working for Luz Industries. There, his work was mainly welding stainless steel pipes. In 1993, Luz Industries closed and Ben Zion decided, at this stage of his life, to invest in his art and create a huge Menorah.
Luz Industries allowed him to use a huge hall in the building to create his Menorah. During this process, he discovered the potential of argon welding and work in stainless steel and the wonders of titanium . At that time, he studied jewelry and created beautiful Judaica products and jewelry.
The Menorah is Ben Zion’s main masterpiece .For ten years he designed, created and built this huge and amazing Menorah, which is situated at the entrance to Mount Herzl. He dedicated the menorah to all the soldiers buried there.
In 2008, Ben Zion was seriously injured in a bicycle accident and underwent four head surgeries. He is severely disabled and is assisted by his wife Sydelle, on a daily basis. His art work is therapeutic and motivational for him.

האומן של המנורה בהר הרצל
בן ציון צפוני ,היוצר של המנורה בהר הרצל, הוא אמן ישראלי שמתמחה בריתוך ארגון ויצירת יודאיקה ותכשיטים.
בן ציון צפוני נולד בירושלים ב . 27.12.1953 במהלך לימודיו בתיכון אורט הוא למד ריתוך ומכניקה עדינה תוך כדי עבודה במקומות שונים.
ב1.11.1971 התגייס בן ציון לצה"ל ושירת ביחידת הנדסה קרבית שעסקה בבניית גשרים. בשנת 1973 במהלך מלחמת יום הכיפורים שירת בן ציון בגדוד 605 סמוך לתעלת סואץ. הוא היה עד למראות המחרידים של המלחמה והוא נפצע פיזית ונפשית.
הוא מוכר כהלום קרב ונכה צה"ל.
לאחר המלחמה הוא עבר תהליך השיקום .בן ציון למד בווינגייט ,עסק בספורט ואומנות.
בן ציון נשוי לסידל ,שעלתה לארץ מדרום אפריקה.יש להם 3 בנים: דקל, שקד ודולב ששירתו ביחידות מובחרות בצה"ל .
בשנת 1982 החל בן ציון לעבוד בלוז תעשיות ,LUZ. שם עבודתו הייתה בעיקר ריתוך צינורות נירוסטה. בשנת 1993 נסגר המפעל ובן ציון החליט בשלב זה של חייו להשקיע באומנותו וליצור מנורה ענקית. לוז תעשיות אפשרה לו להשתמש באולם ענק לבניית המנורה שלו. אז הוא גילה את האפשרות של ריתוך בארגון ,עבודה בנירוסטה ואת נפלאות הטיטניום. באותה תקופה הוא למד צורפות והוא יצר יצירות יפות של יודאיקה
ותכשיטים.
המנורה היא יצירת המופת של בן ציון. במשך עשר שנים הוא תכנן, יצר ובנה את המנורה הענקית והמדהימה הזו, שמוצבת בכניסה להר הרצל. הוא הקדיש את המנורה לכל החיילים שקבורים שם.
בשנת 2008 בן ציון נפצע קשה בתאונת אופניים ועבר ארבעה ניתוחי ראש. הוא נכה קשה ונעזר באשתו על בסיס יומי . האמנות שלו נותנת לו השראה ,אופטימיות ומוטיבציה להמשיך לחיות למרות המוגבלות שלו.
